Levelling up has been a success, claims Cameron

The former Prime Minister defended the Government's record on rebalancing the UK economy during a visit to the North West yesterday.

Lord Cameron, who is now foreign secretary, visited The Fed a Jewish social care charity in Prestwich before travelling to Macclesfield where he posed to pull a pint at the Flower Pot pub.

He told the M.E.N. that levelling up has 'delivered, insisting that it is still a 'key' part of government policy.

The Conservatives coined the phrase ahead of the last general election in 2019 when, under Boris Johnson, the party stole a swathe of Labour seats across the North of England.

Since then, the Government has awarded billions of pounds for various projects through the Levelling Up fund but by last September, only 10 per cent had been spent.
