STORM Lilian wreaked havoc across Greater Manchester yesterday morning with strong winds causing trees to fall onto roads, Metrolink services being suspended and a food and drink festival having to be postponed.
As the storm swept over the country, our region was battered with winds of up to 60mph.
The strongest of the winds were felt between around 6am and 9am, with a Met Office yellow wind warning issued up until 11am.
The gusts caused trees to be pulled from the ground, with pictures showing trees fallen onto cars and houses across a number of boroughs.
Meanwhile in east Manchester, Ashton New Road had to be fully closed off earlier after a fallen tree came to a rest on the overhead tram lines. Photos showed police on the scene as the road was blocked in both directions.
Pictures also showed fallen trees in Oldham, Bolton, Trafford and Wigan.
Most lines on the Metrolink network were suspended earlier as the 'severe weather' hit the region.
