Massive change as slimmer sheds 10 stone in a year

A YEAR AGO, David Fenton was lying in a hospital bed after his blood pressure reached dangerous levels Tipping the scales at nearly 30 stone, his health had hit rock bottom and he was desperate for help.

But just 12 months on, David is now nearly unrecognisable after shedding an incredible 10-and-a-half stone.

"Being hospitalised was a wake-up call for me," the 38-year-old, who lives in Chorlton, said. "I thought, 'If things don't change, I might not have long left."

It was a colleague who helped David turn his life around for good. The Slimming World member told David about Manchester council's referral scheme, which offers a 12-week free membership if you meet certain criteria. He joined the group in March, 2023.

"I didn't know what to expect," David said. "I was dreading talking about my weight. I thought I'd have to get on the scales in front of everyone and they would all know how much I weighed. Obviously, it wasn't like that at all."
