After coming on as a second-half substitute with the game level, McTominay could only last 25 minutes before having to be replaced. He was initially introduced for Kobbie Mainoo with Mason Mount making a brief appearance off the bench in stoppage time.
McTominay missed two matches early last month with another knock picked up against Chelsea, where he once more came on from the bench.
Having been a regular under Erik ten Hag his role has diminished in recent months.
