A 'FAMILY' of skyscrapers which 'define what the city looks like for future generations' have been signed off by the council despite not having any affordable housing in their 2,388 flats.
Developer Renaker secured planning permission for five huge new skyscrapers on Deansgate yesterday - with the largest, called Plot D, set to be 71 storeys tall, at 213 metres (698 ft).
The other four, called Contour, will be either 47 or 51 storeys tall. They will fit into the 'masterplan' for the area, which Renaker has already built, including luxury 200m-high Deansgate Square towers, a primary school, medical centre and a public square.
More amenities are on the way with the five new blocks, too. The £300 million Plot D will feature a 'lantern' design at the top, which echoes the motif of a lighthouse, where a publicly-accessible restaurant boasting 360-degree views of the city will be housed.
