Hundreds of far-right protesters squared up to police shields at Middlesbrough’s Cenotaph, throwing bricks cans and pots at officers as a Holiday Inn housing asylum seekers was stormed by crowds.
It followed further unrest on Saturday in towns and cities including Hull, Liverpool, Stoke-on Trent, Nottingham, Bristol, Blackpool and Belfast, which saw several police officers injured.
At an emergency press conference on Sunday, Sir Keir condemned the disorder as ‘far-right violence’.
