Emergency services responded to concerns for the welfare of a man at the supermarket filling station, on Victoria Avenue East, at around 7.35pm. It is understood the man set himself on fire.
He was rushed to hospital with life-threatening burns after being treated by crews at the scene. The M.E.N. understands he has since died from his injuries.
Outside the forecourt yesterday, a sign tells customers the Tesco fuel station is 'closed until further notice. The station's entrance has also been taped off.
