MINUTES after his wife ran into the street on fire, Waqas Mahmood phoned his ex-partner and told her 'I'm going to get done for manslaughter, an inquest heard.
Nosheen Akhtar, also known as Sarah Hussain, died after suffering horrific burns at her home in East Street, Bury.
An inquest has previously heard that Ms Hussain told paramedics that Mr Mahmood had 'set her on fire. Other witnesses at the scene claimed the 31-year-old informed them that she had set herself ablaze.
In the days after the incident on July 23, 2021, Mr Mahmood's exwife, Kierran Kayani, told police he had phoned her and said Ms Hussain 'had burned herself.
However, an inquest yesterday was told how she later informed officers that her initial account was incorrect, and that Mr Mahmood had told her he was 'going to get done for manslaughter' during the call.
The resumed inquest at Rochdale Coroners Court also heard about an incident in November 2022 16 months after Ms Hussain's death when Mr Mahmood turned up at Ms Kayani's home in drunken rage.
