The arrests occurred during a trap operation while accepting a bribe of Rs 20 lakh, which was part of a negotiated bribe amount of Rs 60 lakh. An additional Rs 30 lakh was allegedly delivered earlier through Hawala channels.
CBI registered a case against eight accused, including six CGST officers and two private individuals, on charges of bribery and related offences.
The officers implicated include an Additional Commissioner, a Joint Commissioner, four Superintendents of CGST, a Chartered Accountant, and another private individual.
The investigation began following a complaint that the accused detained the complainant at the CGST Office in Santacruz on the evening of September 4, 2024.
