Dhaka made a formal request to New Delhi on Monday to extradite former prime minister Sheikh Hasina, who has been living in India since she fled Bangladesh in August, Bangladesh's de facto foreign minister Touhid Hossain said.
There was no official word from the Indian side on the request, made in the form of a note verbale, or unsigned diplomatic correspondence, that was sent from the Bangladesh high commission in New Delhi to the external affairs ministry.
People familiar with the matter said on condition of anonymity that a note verbale was received from the Bangladesh high commission in "connection with an extradition request." The people didn't give details.
