India’s copper imports are at a record 181,000 tonnes due to severe supply disruptions in the domestic market, while exports plummeted to a record low of 30,000 tonnes in FY23, even lower than the pandemic period, according to data from the government.
Despite achieving the highest copper production in the past five years at 555,000 tonnes in FY23, India still had to import 181,000 tonnes to meet rising demand, which reached an all-time high of 706,000 tonnes during the year.
