Let’s start with the Tamron Hall Show. Shout out to Hall, who attended Temple University and lived in Philly for some time. Last week, her show featured Scott Strode, the founder of The Phoenix Gym—a safe, sober space to support recovery. He opened up about his own struggles with substance abuse and how exercise was the catalyst to his recovery.
The Phoenix takes a new approach to recovery by fostering healing through fitness and personal connection. They offer activities for everyone – from weightlifting and boxing to running, hiking, and yoga. All to help people grow stronger together, overcome the stigma of addiction, and rise to their full potential. The cost of membership is 48 hours of sobriety.
Since 2006, the Phoenix has helped more than 318,000 people across America rise above addiction and harness the power of self-transformation. What started as a solo project developed beyond his, he explained. A sober, active community of peers who support each other every day on the journey to recovery – that was what Phoenix began. Scott found hope in his own recovery while discovering how ice climbing helped all his problems, fears, and the shame of addiction melt away.
He recently appeared on Tamron Hall, promoting the new location in Philly near Temple University. Located at 126 Race Street in Philadelphia, The Phoenix offers a free, sober, active community to individuals who have suffered from a substance use disorder and to those who choose a sober life.
Using a peer support model, this program helps members heal and rebuild their lives while also eliminating stigma around recovery. This program provides Boxing, Climbing, CrossFit, Hiking and Camping, Skiing and Snowboarding, Yoga, and more.
