Nearly 200 people have suffered electric shocks while travelling on our railways since 2019. And many occur when passengers attempt to use plug sockets under their seats.
There have been no fatalities but five people required hospital treatment. In 2022 alone, 57 passengers became victims.
Matt Clements, of the Rail Safety and Standards Board, said: "The most common situation is where a passenger is using the plug sockets underneath seats and tables which are made available to charge laptops and phones."
