As of December 2023, Bangladesh's foreign exchange reserves totaled USD 17.20 billion, below the IMF's eased minimum target of USD 17.78 billion, as reported media on Wednesday.
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) sanctioned a $4.7 billion loan for Bangladesh in January of the previous year and set a minimum FX Reserve, also known as the Net International Reserve (NIR), at $26.81 billion by the end of December 2023. However, that target was later relaxed to $17.78 billion for December, $19.27 billion for March, and $20.11 billion for June, as reported by the Bangladeshi English-language daily newspaper, quoting the IMF document.
