In a pivotal move, the Kerala Government has taken its grievances to the Supreme Court, alleging prolonged inaction on the part of State Governor Arif Mohammed Khan regarding the assent of eight crucial bills passed by the state legislature. The plea filed under Article 200 of the Constitution highlights the extended delay in processing these bills, some remaining unresolved for over two years.
Represented by Senior Advocate KK Venugopal, a former Attorney General of India, the Kerala Government presented its case before a bench led by Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud. The bench, issuing notice to the Centre and Additional Chief Secretary to Kerala’s Governor, scheduled the matter for further deliberation on November 22, seeking the assistance of the Attorney General or Solicitor General.
