DOT-IIT PARTNERSHIP TO ACCELERATE CELL-FREE 6G

The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) is set to accelerate its efforts in advancing indigenous technology for 6G telecommunications through a new initiative. The Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DOT), the DoT’s research and development arm, has formalized a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee and IIT Mandi. This collaboration aims to develop ‘Cell-Free’ 6G Access Points (APs), marking a significant step towards the future of telecommunications.

The 6G project, spearheaded by this partnership, will focus on the creation of access points that are integral to the forthcoming 6G radio access networks. This initiative is not only geared towards advancing technological development but also contributes to 6G standardization efforts, promotes commercialization, and generates intellectual property rights (IPRs). Additionally, it seeks to build a skilled workforce to support the evolving 6G landscape.
