Prime Minister Narendra Modi has tendered his resignation, along with his council of ministers, to President Droupadi Murmu ahead of the formation of the next Bharatiya Janata Party-led NDA government. This move signifies the impending dissolution of the 17th Lok Sabha, which has been in session from 2019 to 2024.
Following the submission of the resignation, President Murmu accepted it and requested PM Modi and his Council of Ministers to continue their roles until the new Government assumes office. The decision to resign came after a Cabinet meeting held in the national capital on Wednesday, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. During the meeting, the Cabinet recommended the dissolution of the current cabinet, whose term is scheduled to end on June 16.
