Reservation for transgender persons: Supreme Court seeks responses from 3 states, 5 UTS

The Supreme Court in the case Kamlesh and Ors v. Niten Chandra and Ors observed and has sought responses from various States and Union Territories with regards to compliance with the directions given in the landmark case of NALSA v. Union Of India for devising mechanisms to give the benefit of affirmative action to the Transgender community in India.
Reservation for transgender persons: Supreme Court seeks responses from 3 states, 5 UTS

The response has been directed against the backdrop wherein the contempt petition is filed earlier by members of the transgender community.

It has been argued by them before the court that despite the Supreme Court’s judgement in the case 2014 NALSA, no effective reservation policy has been formulated for transgender persons, particularly affecting their education and employment opportunities.

The court in the case National Legal Services Authority vs Union of India and Others, recognized the third gender and called for affirmative action to support transgender persons.

However, the contempt plea filed specifically sought compliance of the following direction issued in the National Legal Services Authority, NALSA:
