Jokes, jibes make for colourful swearing-in of new MPs

It seems they should add minister of jokes to Patriotic Alliance (PA) leader and Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture Gayton McKenzie after he made a hilarious entrance with a series of quips when being sworn-in as a Cabinet minister yesterday.

When Chief Justice Raymond Zondo asked him to take a seat to sign his oath, he said: "The last time a judge asked me to take a seat, he made me sit for 10 years." Zondo initially requested McKenzie to repeat his oath as he had said it "too fast".

When he got into it, McKenzie threw shade at Mineral Resources and Petroleum Minister Gwede Mantashe, who had earlier made a blunder of his own.
