“The book is partly my lived experience growing up in South Africa amid a large extended Jewish family with Eastern European roots,” Levine said. “I grew up under an autocratic, racist, Christian national government.”

While most washed up in America, a wavelet of Lithuanian Jews, like the Weiszes, landed on South Africa's shores.
