Power, water out after snowstorm
The Citizen|September 26, 2024
The weekend’s snowfall has left many people, from Ixopo to Bergville, without electricity and water as a result of trees falling on power lines and affecting electric water pumps.

Gareth Sivright, owner of Glengarry Holiday Farm in Kamberg, has been without power for four days.

“We’ve had to buy diesel to keep essential systems running. I’ve just been to town to get more fuel for our generators,” he said on Tuesday.

“We also have no internet when the power is out.

“Guests had to cancel or postpone their trips as they couldn’t reach us due to the snowfall.”

Farm manager Wendy Channing of Nirvana Farm at Curry’s Post, which includes Endeavour Alpacas, a sanctuary for the woolly South American animals, said she had lost revenue and had to incur the cost of removing fallen trees.
