Three deadly consecutive earthquakes - of 7.8, 7.6 and 6.0 magnitude hit Turkey and neighbouring Syria on Monday killing more than 2,600 people and injuring thousands. Such deaths and destruction in Turkey were last seen near-century ago, precisely 84 years back.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan described the 7.8 magnitude quakes as the country's "biggest disaster" since 1939, according to Anadolu Agency.
The first one with 7.8 magnitude earthquake hit southern Turkey in the early hours claiming many lives in their sleep. The quake level building and causing tremors felt as far away as Greenland. Officials say this was one of the largest earthquakes to hit Turkey in more than a century, it caused vibrations throughout the area, collapsed buildings, and forced people to flee into the streets. Nearby regions Syria were also jolted severely, CNN reported.
The last two earthquakes hit hours after the first killer temblor of 7.8 magnitude.
