The survey identified a total of 5,312 beggars in the city, and among them, especially pregnant women, were found to be earning up to Rs 80,000-90,000 a month. This survey was part of a campaign aimed at identifying beggars in the city and connecting them with government welfare schemes.
Authorities are currently working to document their details, including registering them for Aadhaar cards, in order to help integrate them into mainstream society. During this process, a number of surprising facts have come to light.
