It would hardly be an exaggeration to say that the roads in the financial capital of India are tarred with disgrace, with the city adding the latest feather to its 'cap'ital status on Thursday when a section of the road at the busy Prabhadevi junction caved in, right outside theSiddhivinayak Temple. It goes without saying that videos of the incident went viral.
Around 10am, a car began to be swallowed by a gaping hole, with its front wheels trapped in the quagmire, unleashing chaos in a heavy traffic area, especially in the midst of the ongoing Ganeshotsav. At the time of the incident, visarjan retinues were on their way, with heavy foot and vehicle traffic.
Traffic along Swatantryaveer Savarkar Marg ground to a halt because of what Mumbai Traffic Police described as a large pothole. However, the reality was that this was the mother of all potholes, a sinker no less.
