The controversial Dera chief and his four aides were convicted in 2021 by the special CBI court, Panchkula, in rape and two murder cases killing of journalist Ram Chander Chhatrapati in Sirsa and former Dera manager Ranjit Singh in a Kurukshetra village. Dera chief challenged all the convictions before the high court; while his appeals in the rape cases and Chhatarpati murder case are still pending, he has been acquitted in the Ranjit Singh murder case.
He is currently lodged in Sunaria jail in Rohtak.
