China has expressed displeasure about the naming of a previously unnamed peak in Arunachal Pradesh by Indian mountaineers after the 6th Dalai Lama, reaffirming its territorial claims over the region.
A team from the National Institute of Mountaineering and Adventure Sports (NIMAS) led by director Ranveer Jamwal scaled the 20,942-feet virgin peak in the Gorichen Massif of Mon Tawang Region last week.
The team chose to name the peak in honour of the 6th Dalai Lama, Tsangyang Gyatso, who was born in the Mon Tawang region in 1682 in the tiny Himalayan state.
