Skipper Harmanpreet Kaur's late blitz powered India to 172 for 3, and then bowlers restricted Sri Lanka to 90-all out in 19.5 overs, and win by 82 runs at Dubai International Stadium on Wednesday. India also bettered their net run rate (NRR) and climbed to second spot in Group A standings with four points after three games of the ICC Women's World Cup. It was biggest winning margin for India in the history of the T20 World Cup.
Kaur brushed aside neck injury concerns to make 52 in 27 balls with eight boundaries and one six. She hit two consecutive boundaries to bring her half-century in the last ball of the innings.
After winning a crucial toss, India had no hesitation to bat first and openers Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma gave a 98-run stand in 12.4 overs to set the momentum. Mandhana scored 50 in 38 balls, studded with four boundaries and a six. Verma made 43 in 40 balls with four boundaries.
