The 30-year-old's agency, SM Entertainment, released a statement on X, saying the NCT member will depart from the boy band after learning he has been "accused in a criminal case related to a sexual crime".
The label did not specify the nature of the alleged crime but said it "recognised the seriousness of the situation" and decided Taeil, whose legal name is Moon Tae-il, can no longer "continue his activities with the team". Taeil has not publicly commented on the allegations.
