Maharashtra minister Dhananjay Munde's close aide Walmik Karad, wanted in an extortion case linked to the murder of Beed Sarpanch Santosh Deshmukh, surrendered to the authorities at the CID headquarters in Pune on Tuesday.
Before turning himself in, Karad posted a video saying he was being linked to the murder out of sheer political vendetta.
The 'surrender' comes after weeks of intensive efforts by the police to apprehend Karad, who had been evading arrest for the last three weeks.
After the 'surrender', a preliminary inquiry was conducted and he has been handed over to the CID team at Beed which is investigating the extortion and murder cases.
Thus far, four accused had been arrested in connection with the murder case.
