SC DRAWS A LINE ON HOARDINGS

The Railways and the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai should ensure that there are no incidents of hoarding collapse in the city, the Supreme Court said on Friday.

A vacation bench was hearing the civic body's plea challenging an order of the Bombay High Court which had held that legal provisions barring any person from erecting or fixing a sky-sign without the written permission of the civic boss would not be applicable to hoardings erected by the Railways on Railway land.

The Railways had, in turn, contended that commercial activities on Railway properties are not under the jurisdiction of the civic body.
