The aim of this decision is to make transactions faster, more secure, and transparent. Currently, most transactions operate under the T+1 settlement cycle, where shares sold today are settled the following day. Under the T+0 model, this process will be completed on the same day.
What's Happening?
In March 2024, SEBI launched a pilot project to implement T+0 settlements for 25 companies. Following its successful trial, the model is now being expanded to the top 500 companies, with 100 new companies added to the framework each month.
SEBI has introduced special provisions under this cycle, offering stock brokers and investors the choice to opt for either the T+0 or T+1 settlement model.
