The JMM-led coalition on Saturday retained power in Jharkhand for the second consecutive term by riding on the back of popularity fuelled by 'Maiya Samman Yojana' and other welfare schemes as BJP failed to gauge the people's mood in a tribal dominated state, once considered as its fortress.
Acknowledging the fact that women voters dominate 32 of the state's total 81 seats, the JMM-led coalition government launched the Mukhyamantri Maiya Samman Yojana on August 3 this year. Under the scheme, an amount of Rs 1,000 per month is provided to women aged 18-25 years every month, benefitting around 52 lakh women. To rival it, BJP also introduced the Gogo-Didi Yojana, promising Rs 2,100 per month to all women if voted to power.
