Barge is unfit to live on and we are afraid, say asylum seekers

A three-page letter sent to the home secretary, Suella Braverman, outlined their fear and despair at being trapped on the barge and asked her to help them in their search for safety and freedom in the UK.

They described the barge as "an unsafe, frightening and isolated place" but said that as law-abiding people they were fearful of not obeying Home Office instructions.

The asylum seekers also called the barge "a place of exile". Some have said that they are too traumatised to return to the barge in Portland.
