PLYMOUTHBORN broadcaster Angela Rippon hopes her appearance as a contestant in the next series of Strictly Come Dancing will inspire older people to dance and stay active.
The 78-year-old was announced as being among the first contestants for the next series, alongside actors Amanda Abbington and Layton Will iams, Channel 4 journalist Krishnan Guru-Murthy and comedian Eddie Kadi. The new batch of famous faces will compete on the 21st series of BBC One’s dancing competition this autumn.
Broadcaster Angela worked in journalism in the Westcountry after leaving school, including a spell with The Herald’s sister newspaper, the Western Morning News, before becoming the first regular female news anchor on the BBC in 1975. She famously appeared in a high-kicking routine on the Morecambe and Wise Christmas Show in 1976 and went on to host shows, including Strictly predecessor Come Dancing between 1988 and 1991.
