Appeal to deal with 'boy racers' in Plymstock

DRIVING speeds on roads around Plymstock are to be monitored, after complaints were made about “boy racers” zipping along narrow lanes.

Plymouth City Council will clock motorists’ speeds for two weeks to see if action needs to be taken after concerns were raised about cars “racing”.

It comes after the owner of award-winning boutique hotel St Anne’s House complained the road outside his establishment, Jennycliff Lane, is far too dangerous for its 60mph classification.

Neal Stoneman wants the speed limit reduced to 30mph. He said the one-way road is used by pedestrians, including children, and horse riders – but also by motorists who race along at speeds way over what he considers to be safe. He said: “It’s 60mph, yet there is no pavement or lighting. I want it to be 30mph.”
