Jessica Riggs, from Notter, near Saltash, said it has taken her more than a decade to gain a diagnosis for her chronic condition, and has now had to give up her dream job as a result.
In 2014, she was diagnosed with chiari malformation – a condition where the lower part of the brain pushes down into the spinal canal. One of the main symptoms she suffers from, amongst many others, is pressure around the brain, which can cause severe headaches.
The 32-year-old said she has been fighting for treatment on the NHS for 10 years to no avail, due to the rarity of her disease meaning doctors do not know how to treat her. This fight and her worsening symptoms recently forced her to seek answers overseas at a specialist clinic in Barcelona, Spain.
