A FORMER professional footballer from Plymouth has a dream of playing for England in the Euros – but in the sport of footgolf. Bobby Hopkinson is aiming to land him a place in the squad for the footgolf European Championships.
It comes after he helped the UK win the Jansen Cup, footgolf’s equivalent of golf’s Ryder Cup, by beating the USA.
Bobby, a former Plymouth Argyle youth player who played league football for Aldershot Town, said: “After numerous ankle operations and the ability to play football was taken away from me, footgolf gave me that football fix that everyone craves.”
Footgolf is, as the name suggests, a cross between football and golf, it is played on a golf course where players kick a football into a series of large holes.
Bobby, now 34, was a member of the Argyle team that reached the quarter-final of the FA Youth Cup in 2008.
