OWNERS of the restaurant on the former Sir John Hawkins Square said they are disappointed but not surprised that their suggestion for the new name for the area was not taken more seriously.
Cosmic Kitchen is the only address in the square, which the council has this week proposed should be renamed Justice Square as it backs on to the Magistrates’ Court building.
The vegan restaurant is run by sisters Lucia and Gabriela Evangelou, who had suggested that the location could be called ‘Jefferson Square’ as a memorial to their uncle, well-known DJ Jefferson Vandike, who died earlier this year.
A sign reading ‘Jefferson Square’ in the style and appearance of an official street name was put up in the square earlier this year by unknown persons, but believed to be a tribute to Mr Vandike, who was resident DJ at the former Millennium nightclub on Union Street.
