A JURY heard that a mental health assessment of a man who killed his mother did not deem him to be a risk to the public.
Callum Thomas is accused of murdering his mother Debra Cantrell sometime between May 5 and May 31 last year. He has pleaded guilty last week to manslaughter on the basis of diminished responsibility.
On the first day of his trial the jury were told by prosecutor Anna Vigars KC that the body of 58-year-old Ms Cantrell was discovered by police after they had been called by a online gamer from the USA, who had become concerned about Thomas when they were last online together.
Officers went to Ms Cantrell’s home in Colwill Road, Estover on May 31 and forced entry. Inside the bedroom they found Ms Cantrell with a fatal wound to her chest and a pillow over her head. The jury was told she had been in the property for some time.
