Car club getting back on the road with new provider

PLYMOUTH’S electric car club will be back on the road this year with a new operator now offering pay-as you-go vehicles through the city’s sustainable transport initiative.

Co Wheels CIC is the UK’s largest community interest car club operator, and they are picking up the baton from Exeter-based Co Cars, which last year went into administration and ceased trading.

The scheme will provide at least 10 vehicles which will be available for hire 24 hours a day, 365 days per year. This is for an initial period of four years with an option to extend.

Plymouth City Council say the first cars are expected to be on the streets later this spring.

The car club is part of the Connect Plymouth initiative which was launched last year and also included the introduction of a fleet of 500 electric Beryl bikes.
