COUNCIL Tax in Plymouth will rise by 5% next year, after Plymouth City Council councillors voted to agree a budget for the upcoming 12 months.
The budget, described as 'ambitious, has a 'relentless focus on delivering priority services that residents say matter, the authority said.
Local authorities across the country are under significant pressure, with rising demand for services. Alongside this, the cost-of-living crisis has caused persistently high inflation and, despite being in a better financial position than most other local authorities, Plymouth is not immune to these pressures and over the past year has already found more than £20 million of savings.
At a full council meeting last Friday, members agreed that in order to balance the books, the city council will have to implement a Council Tax increase of 2.99% for the coming year, as well as levying a 2% precept to pay for social care. This means a total Council Tax increase of 4.99%, which is in line with the national rate of inflation.
