Dann urges Plymouth public to get behind star boxers

BOXING fans are being urged to save the date for the next planned contests for two Plymouth title-contenders, in the wake of comments by their trainer over a lack of backing.

Silver welterweight champion Constantin Ursu and bantamweight Connor Adaway are both expected to be involved in high-profile contests on Saturday, September 7.

Commonwealth While the show is expected to be at the Brentwood Centre in Essex, trainer Marlee Dann said coaches will be organised to take 100-150 fight fans from Plymouth up and back, hopefully at minimal cost.

Although the show has yet to be publicly announced, plans are in the pipeline for a show which could potentially see both Plymouth men in title action.

Ursu is already Silver Commonwealth champion and could be defending his strap, while Adaway is in the mix for a Silver Commonwealth bid or even possibly a Southern Area challenge.

Dann said: "On the next show, they should be boxing on September 7 at the Brentwood Centre in Essex, Connor Adaway and Constantin.

We've had three names put to us already and they are all legitimate title challengers and all at a good level, and there is nothing to say that Constantin shouldn't be fighting for the Silver Commonwealth title or a European title.

"Connor Adaway will be in against someone good - we got offered a fight against someone who was 8-0 and we accepted, then they did a little bit of research on Connor and withdrew from the negotiations, which tells you everything you need to know.
