Embalmer who wants to make loved ones 'beautiful'

A YOUNG woman who was inspired to become an embalmer after the death of her grandmother wants to help families in Plymouth through the grieving process by making loved lost ones ‘beautiful again’.

Hannah Pearce, aged 29, chose to become an embalmer eight years ago after first being intrigued by the trade when she was just 17 years old. She didn’t take up embalming at age 17, instead working as a barmaid for a couple of years. However, she was soon drawn back into doing the job she now loves, working as an embalmer across the South West.

Plymouth-born Hannah, who now lives in Ivybridge, was drawn to the career for several reasons, one being experiencing the loss of her grandmother when she was 16 years old. Hannah was, at the time, unable to see her grandmother in the chapel of rest and this stayed with her. She said when someone passes away, there are often ‘things you want to say’ as you see that person you love ‘one last time’.
