FOOTBALL FANS URGED TO GET BEHIND NON-LEAGUE DAY
- STUART JAMES
FAN-TASTIC INITIATIVE!

WHEN people discuss the famous, or more popular things that Tavistock gave the world, they think Sir Francis Drake, its connection to the origins of the cream tea, or maybe even the famous 'Goose Fair.

Unbeknown to many, though, the origins of football's increasingly popular 'Non-League Day' can also be traced back to the stannary town, and its inception as a social media experiment some 15 years ago.

When the Lambs played host to Queen's Park Rangers in a friendly, football fanatic James Doe found himself making his way to Langsford Park to watch the action. Inspired by what he experienced - namely a bumper crowd, which is always most welcome to clubs of Tavistock's size, and the sheer enjoyment of grass-roots football - he set up 'Non-League Day,' a platform for clubs to promote the importance of affordable volunteer-led community football across the country whilst making a few quid at the same time.
