PLYMOUTH'S heritage steam railway is back on track, having purchased its own locomotive.
The Plym Valley Railway Company has successfully found the £40,000 needed to purchase a steam train, following a fundraising appeal. It is now the owner of the Andrew Barclay 0-4-0 steam locomotive, 'Albert.
Having purchased the engine from its former private owner, it means that for the first time Plym Valley Railway (PVR) now owns an operational steam engine - one of its long-term goals.
The Plympton-based company had in the past relied on hiring locomotives from private owners. Now, having bought its own operational locomotive, it can secure standard gauge steam train services in Plymouth.
