'Hero' dad saves man's life with quick thinking

A DAD-of-four with no medical training leapt to the rescue on Saturday evening when a fellow diner began choking on his food.

Alexander Tickle, 41, was eating at Plymouth restaurant Supha's Street Food Emporium on the Barbican with his young family when he heard a commotion at another table.

The dad, originally from the West Midlands, said he heard cutlery drop to the floor followed by screams of "he's choking, he's choking". At first, the man's partner tried hitting their loved one's back in an attempt to dislodge a trapped piece of meat.

Despite their best efforts Alexander's partner, Claire, noticed the man's face had started to turn blue and at that point both of them decided they needed to help. While Claire comforted the man's partner, Alexander attempted to perform the Heimlich manoeuver, despite having no previous training.
