A CRITICAL incident declared by Derriford Hospital entered its sixth day this week, with University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust still asking patients to avoid visiting its accident and emergency department unless they have a "very serious" or "life threatening" emergency.
At 9am on Thursday, there were more than 100 patients in A&E, one of whom had waited over 44 hours for treatment. In an operational update, the Trust said that they remained exceptionally busy and continued to see high numbers of patients.
