Jones can't halt Cherry Tree's rush to victory

GEORGE Jones added 17 tons to the scoreboard for King Billy during an 8-3 defeat for his side at the hands of a strong looking Cherry Tree B in the return of the Steve Chapman 501 League.

One of those was a 135 three-dart combination out-shot that took the highest finish of the match with Scott Wapshott taking second and third place in that particular stat.

Wapshott's finishes of 122 and 114 sat alongside 13 more three-figure scores to give him a personal tally of 15 tons overall. The epic encounter saw '180' called no fewer than nine times with Andrew Cook firing a trio to add to a solitary effort from teammate Troi Day.

Danny Allen and Mark Shears both added a brace of maximums for the victors, whilst team-mate Jason Pinkerton claimed a fifth overall for his team.

In the doubles phase of play, Wapshott teamed with Billy Evans to put together a 601 leg that was put away in just 20 before the singles saw more world class offerings from the two stacked rosters.

Cook and Allen clashed in the first singles rubber with an Allen 14-darter the perfect riposte for Cook's leg in 16 in a 3-2 success for Allen.

Jones then dispatched Mark Shears by the same scoreline with legs of 15, 18 and 16 giving Jones his three won, whilst one of the two Shears managed came in 14 darts.

Pinkerton's brace of 18-darters helped him run out a comfortable 3-1 winner before Troi Day won a third 14-dart leg of the contest in another 3-1 triumph.

Reigning champions Fawn B started their defence with a a commanding 8-3 win over a talented Kings Arms side as John Mann top scored with 16 three-figure scores.

Mann was well supported by team-mate Jaden Whitting, who ended his evening on 15 three-figure scores, whilst Andy Bates and Fred Goldsmith both topped their ton totals up to 12.

Goldsmith and Whitting added 180s to their particular tallies whilst the only maximum for the defeated team came from Paul Palmer.
