The row between city construction firm boss Keith Elliott and "jean queen" fashion designer Donna Ida Thornton and her husband is due to be settled in the High Court.
Mr Elliott's firm, Keith Elliott Construction Ltd, was awarded £230,000, after taking Langdon Court Manor Ltd to adjudication over unpaid bills. The hotel company did not pay up and has now been served with court papers.
Langdon Court directors, Ms Thornton and her restaurateur husband, Robert Walton, will have this week to respond. If they do not, they will have to pay the sum.
If they do respond and opt for the matter to be dealt with in court, there is the prospect of the adjudication being upheld, plus costs, which could mean the total jumps to £260,000, Mr Elliott said.
If the sum is then not paid, Keith Elliott Construction could send in bailiffs or even order the closure of the hotel via a winding up order on the company running it. The Herald has contacted Ms Thornton but has yet to receive a response.
