NEWLY qualified Marine Commandos have received their green berets at the end of the gruelling 30-miler across Dartmoor.
As part of celebrations to mark the 50th anniversary of Europe’s oldest integrated force, a senior officer from The Royal Netherlands Marines Corps (RNLMC), Lieutenant Colonel Oscar van der Veen NLMC, presented the coveted green berets to the trainees on successful completion of the all-arms Commando course, six of whom were from the Netherlands Marine Corps.
The occasion was also symbolic of the long-standing ties between the Royal Netherlands Navy and the Royal Navy going back centuries, and in particular, the friendship between the Royal Marines and Dutch Marines, who have enjoyed a special bond, regularly training and deploying together as the combined United Kingdom Netherlands Amphibious Force (UKNLAF).
